There have been a lot of questions and concerns brought up recently about the guild. Since there isn't proper communication I'm going to sum up what happened here.<br /><br />To those watching this journal: If you really want to know the drama in WoW, feel free to read.<br /><br /><a name="cutid1"></a><br /><br />Around the end of November and December many higher levels in the guild were starting to fight. Besides the personal business, most of it was a debate if &lt; Canard &gt; should become a raiding guild. I was highly against becoming a large raiding guild as seeing &lt; Canard &gt; was for friends and family. Things escelated, people took things out of context, and there was a massive guild split. <br /><br />Jammalade took all of his characters and created another guild on Moonrunner. Urutorie removed his alt and left to rejoin &lt; Defiant &gt;. Mirakabagiri also left and joined &lt; Money For Yum Yum &gt;. The guild website was hosted on Jammalade's server space, and after the fight and guild split he removed all of the things that I had hosted on his server. Pictures, the guild website, and other things. This is why there is no longer a guild website or guild forums. We also lost our guild Ventrillo server, however Windychu has a private server that we can all still talk to each other on when it is up if need be.<br /><br />This brings us to now. My main, Aeglos, Windychu's main and alt, Josefbugman's main and alt, and Tazngome's main have rolled into &lt; Gutbuster Brigade &gt;. We are still running Canard with our other alts that are in the guild, such as my Shaman Iounn. We rolled our top levels into &lt; Gutbuster Brigade &gt; to try Karazhan and also Gruul's and ZA. <br /><br />I promoted Renen to Guildmaster because it is Tazgnome's alt and the Officers of &lt; Canard &gt;, if needed, can all access that account to help the guild. If you need guild runs PM Josefbugman, Thehightower, Aeglos, Iounn, Windychu, Xephtis, Tazgnome (and her alts). <br /><br />We are still here to help the lower characters level and continue through the game. It amazed her still how much of the universe she wasn’t aware of. How big it was, how many things there were in it – and yet the Doctor was never surprised. Until they found that little suprise in Manhattan...<br /><br /> “So then,” she bounded up to the console. “Are we going to Barcelona yet?”<br /><br /> “Not yet.” He spoke up quickly, flipping a switch. “In fact first of all we are going to take a small detour then we’ll go see them pups.”<br /><br /> “Really?” Martha looked at him oddly. “Where are we going then?”<br /><br /> “Actually we are going to stop on Earth. A bit in the future though so technically it’s a detour,, since it’d be in the past.” He grinned at his own witty remark.<br /><br /> “Right then….are we going to be doing a shopping trip?” She asked.<br /><br /> “Something along those lines, yeah.” The Doctor grinned.<br /><br /> The TARDIS stopped and the Doctor escorted her out into the busy streets with people walking around with hologram newspapers and glasses that displayed the news and sports. Martha looked around at the large city with the sound of baseballs cracking in the distance.<br /><br /> “Welcome to Denver, Colorado, United States, Martha Jones!” the Doctor turned around with hands in his pockets. “Home to the baseball team Rockies and a few other things.”<br /><br /> “When is it?” she grinned.<br /><br /> “Oh…2060?” he scratched the back of his head. “Anyways, I know a pal down over this way. Come along then, don’t go too slow. We have someone to pick up.”<br /><br /> “Someone? What, another companion?” Martha skipped up beside him with a gleeful tone. She loved traveling with the Doctor but sometimes she wished there was someone else to talk to when he refused to speak.<br /><br /> “Oh yeah, someone.” He nodded and round the corner, maneuvering around someone with a Starbucks Coffee in his hand. “Right this way!”<br /><br /> At first she didn’t know what to think. After all you would have though that the Doctor had friends that were odd and collected <i>Star Wars</i> memorabilia at the bottom of their basement. However it wasn’t to a house that he led her, it was to a small pet shop at the corner of the street. He stepped inside and waited for her with the bell ringing.<br /><br /> A young man came out, short choppy dirty blond hair in baggy jeans and a white hoodie. He had a backwards hat on with the logo of RC – which Martha assumed was the local sports team the Doctor had rambled on about. She stepped aside as he moved forward with his hand stretched out.<br /><br /> “Been awhile, eh Trace?” the Doctor grinned and shook his hand.<br /><br /> “Trace? What sort of name is that then?” Martha blurted out.<br /><br /> The young man named Trace turned to her. “Code name, that’s all. Nickname around here.” He smirked at the Doctor and swatted him in the arm. “Long time no see Doc, where’ve you been?”<br /><br /> “Oh you know me, round here and round there.” The Doctor turned and gestured to Martha. “This is Martha Jones, newest companion - met up with her in London.”<br /><br /> “You have a thing for them Brit’s, don’t you man?” Trace raised an eyebrow and discarded the towel he had in his hand. “Wasn’t the last one you had Brit? Blond hair and looped earrings and all?”<br /><br /> “Um… yeah,” the Doctor scratched the back of his head. “We…had gone our separate ways.”<br /><br /> Martha eyed the Doctor and looked back at Trace, who seemed to know exactly what he meant.<br /><br /> “Sorry to hear that,” he nodded and folded his arms. “So then what can I get you, Doc? Some weird four headed snake or maybe a eight legged moose?”<br /><br /> “Nawh, nothing to that extreme. Something small,” the Doctor gestured. “’Bout this big, something you can take with you on long journeys. Something that doesn’t require a lot of picking up after – and that defiantly won’t require a fish tank.”<br /><br /> “Right, remember that fiasco.” Trace nodded and hopped over the counter. “You have anything in mind then, Doc? Lots of pet’s here that fit that description.”<br /><br /> “Yeah, I do.” The Doctor held his finger up. “A cat.”<br /><br /> “A cat?” both Martha and Trace blurted out at once.<br /><br /> “Well, maybe not a cat cat, a kitten cat?” the Doctor gestured again. “Like I said something small that doesn’t require a lot of work to pick up after. Cats are great for that, aren’t they?”<br /><br /> “Well, yeah… pretty independent.” Trace nodded. “What kinda kitten then? I have a lot of those too.”<br /><br /> “Normal one thanks.”<br /><br /> “Ah.” Trace pointed down the store. “Go down; take a left and then a right. Whole bunch just came in. Take your time; I’m sure you’ll know the one you want when you see ‘em.”<br /> <br /> The Doctor headed off and Martha moved to follow but Trace stuck his hand out and shook his head. <br />“Sorry doll, but if the Doc is lookin’ for something like that then you best leave him to his business.”<br /><br /> “Why’s that?”<br /><br /> “Doc doesn’t take just anything with him. It has to have some kind of value to him, y’know?” Trace stepped back. “Like for example, you: You’re young, you look pretty educated and well to be blunt you’re good looking. Doc doesn’t pick up anyone off the street.”<br /><br /> “How do you know him then, Trace?” Martha leaned on the counter with her eyebrow raised. “Fitting your description of the Doctor and all.”<br /><br /> “Oh met him on Milky Way Sixty-Six.” Trace tabbed the counter as to indicate a map. “Hitchhiked rather, took me for a few rides and ups and turns.”<br /><br /> “Wait, so, you’re an alien?” Martha grinned. “For real, like a real alien, here on Earth?”<br /><br /> “Eh I wouldn’t use the word alien. Has a bad connotation y’know?” Trace grinned. “Let’s just say I’m from a galaxy far far away.”<br /><br /> “You know your Earth movies then?” Martha smiled.<br /><br /> “’Course I do. You can’t get too far without seeing them here. They’re classics.” Trace smiled. “Anyways, Doc brought me here and I started up shop. Deal with a few customers from out of town, you know what I mean? Generally the Doc doesn’t come ‘ere unless he needs something to stop some big up to do. But,” he paused and looked down the hall. “This one is a bit different I think.”<br /><br /> “You can’t really save a race with a cat.” Martha shook her head.<br /><br /> “Oh you’d be surprised what the Doc can do with an animal, Miss Martha.” Trace smiled.<br /><br />“That’s true, I’ve seen him destroy a space ship with a spoon.” Martha noted and held up her finger. “Had fungus in it.”<br /><br />“Sounds like something he’d do, he’s a nut.” Trace nodded and looked back down the hallway. “But no, doubt he’s gonna keep it as a pet to be honest. Doc needs someone.”<br /><br /> “He has me.” Martha retorted.<br /><br /> “Yeah, he does.” Trace nodded and swatted her in the arm lightly. “But there are something’s you just can’t tell other people. I mean you can tell one person one thing, but not everyone can know someone’s secrets. I think this kitten is gonna be something that just can silently be there for him.”<br /><br /> “What are you saying a cat can be a better companion than me?”<br /><br /> “Not at all, Miss Martha.” Trace raised his hands. “What I meant was, sometimes there are just something’s you can put into words. Generally, animals can catch on that and give the kind of comfort you need. It’s a thing about humanoids, they like soft furry creatures.”<br /><br /> “I see….deal with non humanoids?” Martha raised her eyebrow.<br /><br /> “You should look into <i>Star Trek</i> sometime.” Trace tapped the small cash register and it shot the drawer out. “Teaches you quiet a bit.”<br /><br /> At that moment the Doctor returned with a small gray and black tabby in his hands. She had a yellow ribbon around her neck and large blue eyes that looked around curiously at everything. The Doctor grinned at Martha then stood in front of Trace, placing the kitten down on the counter.<br /><br /> “Ah this one, yeah she’s perfect for you.” Trace nodded and scratched the back of her ears. “Curious and gets into everything. Protective though, watches out for the rest of them. What’s she think?”<br /><br /> “Oh I think she’s ready to explore the bigger world.” The Doctor looked down at her. “Some people just can’t stay in the small world while others can. This one is ready I think. So then, what do I owe you?”<br /><br /> “Knowing you, you’ll pay me by saving the worlds with this little girl, so go on and take her.” Trace held up a finger. “Though I am gonna need her name. Gotta register her with the big head honcho, y’know.”<br /><br /> “Right.” The Doctor nodded and picked her up, looking at her. “Hmm, Martha what do you think of her when you look at her?”<br /><br /> Martha studied the kitten for a moment before shrugging. “A flower I suppose.”<br /><br /> “Flower? Why on Earth a flower?”<br /><br /> “Dunno, just the first thing that popped into mind is all.” Martha looked at him. “Why, something wrong with that?”<br /><br /> “Not at all!” the Doctor grinned and put the kitten on his shoulder. “Well then, Trace, I’m sure you know.”<br /><br /> “Right, you’re predictable like that you big ol’ teddy bear.” Trace nodded. “Well then all registered. Get on out and head go do whatever you do. If there’s any problems with her just bring her back and we’ll get her all fixed up for you. God only knows what kind of hell she’ll go through.<br /><br /> “But judging by her,” Trace looked at the kitten. “She’ll follow you anyways – kinda like Martha. Kinda like all your knuckleheaded companions.”<br /><br /> “Sure is!” the Doctor beamed and set the kitten in his pocket. “Well then, Martha Jones! We have a place to get you too. We’ll be seeing you Trace.”<br /><br /> “Bet you will!”<br /><br /><br /> Martha turned the corner just enough to peak into the console room once they had lifted off. Now, she had a small collar chain with a circular tag on the front. This time I HOPE to have screenshots of you know what's really important in the episode, HAR.<br /><br /><a name="cutid1"></a><br /><br />Our episode this week starts off with Shino sitting at the place where the cute Horsey thing is. This was also the place where the Twilight Brigade sat while talking about Haseo joining (WOA). The horsey thing looks at Shino as she is looking at the Guild Invite Card, and she tells him "It's nothing."<br /><br /><center><br /><hr><br />TITLE SCREEN<br />lolz<br /><hr><br /></center><br /><br />The next scene has, brace yourself: YATA AND PHAI. OMFG! XO! Phai asks how the information is going on Ovan, and Yata tells her that "<i>The PC body itself is relatively normal. However, most of the left arm's data is black boxed. I've never seen anything like this before.</i>" Phai asks if he can open it, and in so many words Yata says he can.<br /><br /><center><br /><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v480/hobbit_hunter/ep12_01.jpg"><br /></center><br /><br /><i>FAN THEORY: A lot of fans out there are saying that Yata and Phai are alternate characters for the people that played Naobi and Ender. I really doubt this. Phai does not sound like Ender, Yata does sound a bit like him, but if Yata has an avatar then he would certainly know that Ovan has one - right? I dunno, we'll see as the story goes.</i><br /><br />We are now back in Root Town. Phyllo is asking Haseo what he wants to do now, in which Haseo tells him he doesn't know. "<i>I didn't think that Ovan would disappear.</i>" He says, in whihc Phyllo calls him a child (Lu Perry says "That's childish to think"). Haseo asks what he means, and Phyllo says that "<i>Today is the same as yesterday. Today is the same as tomorrow. Did you think it would last forever?</i>." Haseo says no, but he's still worried that Ovan might not come back. Phyllo asks why. Haseo tells him that there are any internet games out, and if Ovan chose to come back to this one [The World] then there is something wrong with him (Lu Perry: "<i>This is just a jgame, you could easily get tired of a network game. Under the current situtation..it wouldn't be strange if he's not coming back.</i>"). Phyllo asks if Shino is waiting for Ovan, in which Haseo tells him that she believes in Ovan. Phyllo asks about Haseo and if he believes in Haseo. Haseo in so many words tells him he isn't sure, since he doesn't know that much about him. Haseo THEN attempts to be deep and meaningful, asking if he has a purpse here [the World]. Phyllo asks what he means. Haseo is pretty much wondering that since Ovan is gone, if he still has a purpose in The World. Phyllo asks if he was only playing the game because of Ovan, in which Haseo says no. Phyllo suggests that Haseo plays the game for the people that are here [ie Sakisaka, Tabby, Shino]. <br /><br />Back at Home, Sakisaka is pacing and Tabby asks him to sit down. Sakisaka realizes they didn't know anything about Ovan, and Tabby says "<i>He's a mysterious person</i>." Sakisaka asks what she think's about this place and Tabby wonders if he means "@Home". Sakisaka says he was meaning the Twilight Brigade, and how it seems to have no purpose now. He continues on saying that the guild was for finding the Key of Twilight, which doesn't appear to exist. Tabby says that Shino said playing together would be easier if they were all in the same guild, so she joined. Tabby continues to say that she thought as long as Shino was playing the game, she could enjoy the game. Sakisaka say he's qutting the game because "<i>Shino-san has Haseo, and Ovan isn't coming back anymore. If the Key of the Twilight doesn't exist, then the reason for this guild doesn't exist either.</i>" Tabby says it might exist, but Sakisaka doesn't believe it since Shino herself said it. Sakisaka tries to convince her by saying that instead of doing something over and over, they should do something else and have fun. He says they shouldn't be trying so hard to have fun in a game, and Tabby says she isn't, but Sakisaka says she is.<br /><br />At Root Town, Haseo says his good-bies to Phyllo when B-Set walks up. B-Set asks if Haseo is trying to get console, but Haseo says "<i>Just killing time.</i>", which of course is Phyllo's phrase and it makes him spaz. B-Set asks how the Brigade is doing, and Haseo says nothing has been going on. B-Set then says <i>"A child like Shino...when she gets hit at her weak points, she's very fragile. Support her.</i>" Haseo asks if she's telling him to do that (since like everyone is telling him to). <br /><br />Shino is at the Waterfall Lost Ground (it has a name but I dun remember it). A shadow walks up that looks like Ovan's, but it turns out to be Haseo's. Haseo tell's her that B-Set was worried about her. He says that she doesn't look well and that maybe she should log off for the day. Shino asks, that "<i>Even if I log off, Ovan won't come back, will he? I can't run away now.</i>" Haseo asks what she's running away from. Shino doesn't answer directly, just says "I wonder." Haseo asks if she's sure that she's not tired, and asks if she's been sleeping well. Shino doesn't directly answer again, and Haseo says "<i>It's not a complaint or anything, but I want to ask...Am I not enou--</i>" he is then promptly cut off by Shino snuggling up to him for a moment (FANGIRLS). Shino says she feels the need to support the Brigade, but with Sakisaka being a stick in the mud, she doesn't feel like she's enough to hold it together. Haseo says he thinks she shouldn't owrry about what Sakisaka says and that he'll do something about it. This suprises Shino, well it would suprise anyone seeing how indirect Haseo normally is. Shino thanks him. All in all B-Set has figured out she continued playing The World because of Ovan. B-Set has decided she will quit playing the game as well. B-Set says that she would like to see Ovan one more time though.<br /><br />@Home. Haseo walks in saying "Yo!" (*dies laughing*). Shino appologizes for being late and Sakisaka asks what she wants to talk about. Haseo says he thought that they should try restarting the search for the Key of the Twilight. Tabby seems to like it, but Sakisaka tells him there's no point because it doesn't exist. Haseo says its not a matter of if it does or doesn't, because thats what Ovan said. Sakisaka retorts that he isn't stupid enough to look for something that doesn't exist. Tabby is fine with being stupid, but she wants to know how Shino thinks of it and asks if Shino thinks they should continue looking for it. Shino says that it'd be pointless, which pretty much pwns Haseo's attempt (poor guy). Sakisaka says that if they are to continue the search, then they need real information. Tabbt suggests looking for Ovan, since he is logged in somewhere, but Sakisaka says that is a waste of time because Ovan isn't responding. Tabby says that they should try before Sakisaka says its a waste of time.<br /><br />Tabby and Sakisaka sometime later are by the fountain in Root Town. Tabby is still trying to convince him to look for Ovan. Tabby asks if he's worried about Ovan, but Sakisaka says that he isn't a kid and if Ovan wanted to come back then he could have. Tabby calls him an idiot and walks off.<br /><br />@Home, Shino and Haseo are talking. Shino asks why Haseo said "<i>something like that all of a sudden</i>" [about the Key of the Twilight]. Haseo says that he thought if they all had a common goal, the group would act as one again, and "<i>Maybe I screwed up</i>". Shino gives no response and Haseo says he is going out for a bit. However once he leaves Shino gives a small smile.<br /><br /><center><br /><hr><br />COMMERCIAL BREAK<br /><hr><br /></center><br /><br />We get to see Ovan, omg. He keeps begging his captors (Yata and Phai) to stop trying to open up what's on his arm. Yata keeps pushing the program.<br /><br />Shino looks up @Home to find B-Set. B-Set says she wasn't planning on coming back, and Shino welcomes her home (Okaeri). However B-Set says she was planning on quitting so she is just there to say good-bye. B-Set then asks her what she thinks about Haseo, Shino doesn't quite understand, and B-Set mentions that he's a good kid. Shino agrees. B-Set then says, "<i>You should just totally depend on him and forget about Ovan.</i>" Shino says she can't do that because Ovan is special to her, and B-Set replies that she can't win against Shino. Shino apologizes but B-Set says its alright, and she logs out.<br /><br />Meanwhile Tabby is running through the area that she and Shino had found the gloves for her back in episode one. After running through, she collapses and asks Shino what she should do. At the Lost Grounds where the Virus Cores went, Haseo is sitting and wondering what he can do as well. See Shino, your angstfest screws everyone over! <br /><br />Shino and Phyllo are talking to each other at Aura's Church (Grima Lowe?). Shino knows that everyone will go away soon, and Phyllo tells her its something she shouldn't be sad about. She tells him its not being sad, its just a different feeling, and that maybe she's different from everyone else. Shino says that "<i>I think that I'll be here until this world is completely destroyed. No matter what sort of world it becomes...</i>" (of course now that she said that, she's doomed herself). Phyllo asks if its because of Ovan and then says he never should have introduced the two. Shino says that she wants some time to recollect her feelings, "<i>If it's to be broken...I want to break it with my own hands</i>".<br /><br />@Home Sakisaka walks in and asks where Shino is. Haseo says that Phyllo sent a message saying she won't be online for a while. Sakisaka get's upset for trusting in Ovan. He then says that Ovan worked with the TaN to get the Key of the Twilight. Haseo gives him a WTF face, and Sakisaka goes on to explain his theory and that is why Shino left. Haseo says that Shino said it didn't exist, but Sakisaka demands to know why Shino doesn't know why Ovan has come back if he's always logged in. Haseo says there's a reason, but of course none of them know it. Sakisaka then throws down the Home Card and leaves. Haseo asks if Tabby has to go after him, and all Tabby responds with is "But..."<br /><br /><center><br /><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v480/hobbit_hunter/ep12_03.jpg"><br /></center><br /><br />Back with Ovan, he's still telling his captors to stop trying to open it. His glasses shatter, and the thing opens up, and he screams.<br /><br /><center><br /><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v480/hobbit_hunter/ep12_04.jpg"><br /></center><br /><br />Haseo turns his head, having heard Ovan's scream. Tabby asks if he had a message from Shino, but Haseo says he heard something. Tabby asks if it was his parents, but Haseo says he lives alone (accord to Lu Perry, Za Warudo just has it where Haseo is all by himelf in the house). Tabby asks if Haseo know's Shino's address, but Haseo says he hasn't asked yet and he explains that he feels if he asked Shino, she'd tell him. He says "<i>If I knew it was going to be like this, I should have asked.</i>" Tabby notes the two have been close recently, but Haseo says they haven't, and Tabby responds that they've been together, and Haseo being Haseo denies it. Tabby says Haseo is always looking at Shino, and Haseo asks what she's talking about:<br /><br /><center><br />Tabby: Always Haseo... no fair.<br />Haseo: That's because you're always with Sakisaka, isn't it?<br />Tabby: It's not like I'm with him because I want to be! <br />Haseo: Wh-What's that?<br />Tabby: There's no way Haseo would know my true feelings. <br />Haseo: I don't even really want to know.<br />Tabby: If I'm with Shishou, you're satisfied aren't you Haseo? *<i>runs out</i>*<br />Haseo: ....I never said that.<br /></center><br /><br />Haseo then gets a message.<br /><br />Meanwhile Tabby finds Sakisaka and annouces that she is leaving the Twilight Brigade as well. She says its more fun being with Shishou. The two then go on to practice the combo attacks. Sakisaka says he's suprised she's quitting with him and that he's still hanging around with her. Phyllo sees the scene unfold from above. (OMG PHYLLO IS WATCHING YOU!)<br /><br />And now to the final scene of the episode. At Grima Lowe, Haseo walks in to find Shino sitting on the ground in front of the steps. Shino says she saw Haseo's mail, and that she was sorry for leaving at a bad time. Haseo says that he's fine. Shino says "<i>I've decided.</i>" and stands up, turning to Haseo with her black costume from .hack//GU on. Haseo, if this scene was not so serious, I swear would nosebleed. "<i>I will not lose my purpose and run away like Aura.</i>" she says.<br /><br /><center><br />Haseo: That...what did you do? [about the new outfit]<br />Shino: This? So, we shall get started~!<br /><br />Spoilers for: Final Fantasy 7 through X-2, and Kingdom Hearts series.<br /><br /><a name="cutid1"></a><br /><br />Video-games have always been the attack of several political views, ranging from homely enviroments with an M rated title (<i>Grand Theft Auto</i>) to the roles of women in a game (see: every RPG known to man). And this brings up the question: Are women in video games protrayed badly? This essay will delve into this issue.<br /><br />Our first trip down the path will be the ever so debateable game: <i>Final Fantasy X-2</i>. Released by Square-Enix in 2003 was the first game sequel to a <i>Final Fantasy</i> title. One of the biggest arguements against the game was how the three main women, Yuna, Rikku, and Paine (YuRiPa/YRP) were dressed in a "slutty" or "skimpy" way. Many found this as a knock down on the characters, especially the female gender. However we need to look more at characters and games to address the issue of "slutty" wear.<br /><br />In general, video games will make women skimpy and the perfect hour glass shape. Why? Because they are video games, they are fictional, and you can do whatever you want in them - not to mention it would boost sales, right (see Lara Croft, <i>Tomb Raider</i>)? However it was more than this for <i>Final Fanatsy X-2</i>. This game takes place two years after <i>Final Fantasy X</i>, meaning that Spira has moved from the limited strict way of thinking and is looking for more ways to express themselves, mainly in the way of dress from the Yevon style. Yuna is no acception to this, she is looking for a style that not only would fit her as a person, but also make for good wear while Sphere Hunting. Rikku is the same way, expressing herself as who she is, as well as Paine. <br /><br />All in all: Clothing, like in the real world, reflects how the people are. Just because a woman shows some belly in a computer game doesn't mean they're "slutty". Little things like clothing designs go along way to add to a games atmosphere and nature, so try to look a bit more into a game before you rat on skimpy females.<br /><br />Our second trip will be how strong women are in video games. Now strength can mean different things: physical, emotionally, spiritually, mentally ect. Typically when players - women especially - will decide to bash and beat on a female character - it isn't because they're strong. Why? They are most likely looking at <i>physical strength</i>.<br /><br /><i>Final Fantasy VII</i> is hailed to be the best of the <i>Final Fantasy</i> series - whether it is or isn't, the game still contains very strong female characters. Tifa, who is a strong martical artist, is a physically strong and strong willed woman - but she is very human and has several human flaws. Aerith is the strongest emotionally and spiritually character in the entire series, it was only her that could summon Holy and save the planet from Meteor. <br /><br /><i>Final Fantasy VIII</i> may not have been people's favorite, but it had strong females. The entire game was rather centered on how strong females are - but how they depend on men, just like how men depend on women - to see them through things. Some females in the world become Sorceresses, obtaining powers that make them God-like, however they need a man (a Knight) to keep them sane. People may say that is a set back and makes them weak, however Sorceresses with Knights are proven to be stronger than those without. For example, both Edea with Cid and Rinoa with Squall were stronger than Ultimecia and Adel - the two most powerful Sorceresses physically and magically. <br /><br /><i>Final Fantasy IX</i> and <i>Final Fantasy X</i> also proved to have strong women. In <i>Final Fantasy IX</i>, the last two summoners are female (Eiko and Garnet/Dagger/Sara), and are the only ones able to summon the strongest Eldion - Alexander. Zidane gave them the emotional support they needed, however both were very strong willed on their on, if not lonely. And in <i>Final Fantasy X</i>, Yuna was seen as a spiritual leader. The physical strength was shared through out her guardians - males and females - however even the guardians leaned onto Yuna for strength, when she felt she had none. The fact that even the common people of Yevon looked at Yuna, even after being excommunicated, shows that she was a powerful woman.<br /><br />And for the latest slander, the <i>Kingdom Hearts</i> series. Several believe that due to the female characters in the game not having a main character slot - or even being in your party - makes them weak. However, is that really the case?<br /><br />First up we'll deal with Kairi/Namine. Many find Kairi annoying, which is their opinon, but this does not make her a weak woman. Kairi is one of Seven Princesses who have the purest hearts of any being every to have lived - is this not a spiritual strength? While she spends most of the game in a coma state, she is still the one that gives Sora most of is strength - and one of the most powerful Keybaldes in the first game: <i>Oathkeeper</i>. She is also the driving force of <i>Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories</i>. The Organization is hell bent on removing the memories of <i>Kairi</i> and replacing them with <i>Namine</i>. Namine has the ability to change and realign memories of Sora and those around him - is that not strength as well? Once given a small encouraging push by Axel, she is able to turn her powers to helping Sora. Namine is also the one who helps Roxas the most out of anyone in the game, the light in his dark, to express that just because they are techincally no one, doesn't mean that they are drapped in darkness. Both characters support their male love interests (Sora and Roxas), however they are strong on their own.<br /><br />The other supporting characters ranging from <i>Final Fantasy</i> games to Disney movies is our next stop. While their personalities in the game reflect on their background, it proves that women are not completly diminished. All the women share at least one of the attributes forementioned in the essay, and some even have more than one. <br /><br />The puprose of the story of <i>Kingdom Hearts</i> and most of the games mentioned is not how strong someone is physically, it is how they and their friends will uplift support and make each other stronger. I groaned at the thought. The last game that had been released for the Tomb Raider franchise was <i>Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness</i>, and that isn't even concidered to be a Tomb Raider game on two facts: 1) There are no tombs to raid, B) There is another optional player, the hell? Lara never works with anyone like that.<br /><br />So while I struggled with the idea, I learned that Eidos had fired Core. Now, for some backstory: Core was the group that worked with Eidos for all the Tomb Raider games. However Core was starting to use Lara to promote their other games (see Angel of Darkness), and Eidos fired them. Now I had never heard of this Crystal Dynamics group and was very spectical, until I saw the promotional artwork.<br /><br /><i>Wow</i>.<br /><br />Not only does Lara look truely <i>realistic</i> for the first time, but the scenery is drop dead amazing. Lara doesn't carry all her items in a backpack of pocket space - no instead you can see all the items on her backpack straps, belts, ect. Crystal Dynamics truely did their research to make a game that the <i>fans</i> wanted to play. And oh <i>wow</i> does it deliver.<br /><br />The TRL Demo starts off in Bolivia, the first level of the game. Lara is scaling a mountain top, where her partner Zip is holding a conversation over her wireless headset. Zip makes a comment that Lara puprosely left her climbing gear behind. Not only is this a step in the direction of Tomb Raider fandom where we see Lara working with someone (and not shooting them), but also the graphics! As she is climbing you can see the sweat, it's just simply mind blowing. Oh - and for once we actually get to see Lara's lips move when she talks, instead of bobbing her head about like some weird thing.<br /><br />The demo walks you through the controls as you come across the trails. <i>Legend</i> is like its predessesors where there are several ways to go, and you have to find the right one to take to continue the storyline. The controls are now split between the keyboard and mouse, which is a small downside for the old school Tomb Raider fans, because it is <i>hard</i> to adjust - especially when there are several buttons due to Lara's massive amount of gear. Two additions to Lara's gear are the PDA and the headset.<br /><br />In addition to the old skills Lara has that carried over, you get several new ones. Lara can now swing herself around poles/large branches to jump forward. The jumping techinique from one platform to another has been added onto with the "E" key feature, making it so you cna grab safely onto another ledge and not have to do the jump over again. Flares have been eliminated and you now have a battery-run light sorce on your backpack. The "Crawl" feature is now named "Sneak", which in itself is funny. Lara will now run in the way the camera is pointed, and the camera is directed by the mouse.<br /><br />I want to know who did the music for this, because it is simply <i>beautiful</i>. It has the classic mystical feel that the first game's music had, complete with vocals from men and women that sing in an unknown language. You can find the music to download on any big Tomb Raider fansite, and I recomend you download the theme. It's gorgeous.<br /><br />Graphic details are amazing. Lara will dry herself after she gets out of the water, in which you can see the water slide from her hair and skin. She will also do several things while you are standing around attempting to figure out where to go next. She will stretch, tie her shoes, pull her gloves on tighter, and several more. You can also see the dirt on her elbows after you've been playing around for a while. The reflection of light shows in her eyes as you move the camera around. The scenery is amazing, details even down to the carving of langauges in the ruins - and yes, for once, metalic/golden doors ARE shiny!<br /><br /><i>Legend</i> pulls the fans back into the realm of Tomb Raider, the original premise that was lost somewhere after the third installment of the franchise. Lara's two new sidekicks: Zip and Alister make for good comedy and can even be useful at several points, which is an improvement from all the other people Lara worked with ...and pretty much ended up killing off (see the first Tomb Raider game). Lara also travels all around the world this game: from Peru to Japan (which both places can be seen in the first two games). Old enemies surface from the original games as well! <br /><br />I rate the <i>Tomb Raider Legend</i> demo a 9/10. Great music, sound effects, characters and even the automatic draw into the storyline grab you all at once as the opening movie starts. However switching from the old Tomb Raider games to the new <i>Legends</i> system is difficult. Another reason to rate this down is that if you don't meet basic requirements of the game, you have to miss out on all the shining details when you turn them all off, which I had to do. Cry.<br /><br /><i>Tomb Raider Legend</i> will be released April 2006 on PC, PS2, XBox/360. The game is rated 12+, so please don't buy it for your young teen. urn:lj:livejournal.com:atom1:hobbit_hunter:232811 2006-01-25T20:26:36Z 2006-01-25T20:34:49Z Tips on how to make good crossovers and things to avoid.<br /><br /><a name="cutid1"></a><br /><br /> <b>Dos and Don’ts of CrossOvers</b><br />by <span class='ljuser' lj:user='hobbit_hunter' style='white-space: nowrap;'><a href='http://hobbit-hunter.livejournal.com/profile'><img src='http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif' alt='[info]' width='17' height='17' style='vertical-align: bottom; border: 0; padding-right: 1px;' /></a><a href='http://hobbit-hunter.livejournal.com/'><b>hobbit_hunter</b></a></span><br /><br /> I’ve been writing crossovers forever, and usually most of them do not end up on the internet just because I wrote them for me or my friends, and others I just have never really finished. My crossovers range from my new obsession of Doctor Who all the way to my very first anime, Bishojou Senshi Seraamunn – or better known as Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon. Through my experiences of crossovers I’ve learned the ‘dos and don’ts’ and figured it would be a good thing to share with everyone before Doctor Who hits the airways of America. This is for writing a serious crossover, so if you are doing it for humor don’t mind this. Also note that the examples in this will be the fandoms I know best and thus this is not limited to just the examples.<br /><br /> <b>Fandom's History</b><br /> Before you do any crossover you need to know the history, or information, behind both series if you want to make it really good. Stories are always interesting if they can reach back into the past and bring out the issues to the characters in the current story. In some fandoms this is easier, while in others it’s harder – such as Doctor Who. If you are obsessed with your fandoms this should be no problem, but if you are one of the people that see someone else’s crossover doing well and you want a try at it – do your homework. <br /><br /> For example let’s say you are crossing something over with Lord of the Rings. You will defiantly need to know the back story of the One Ring and the people that surround it: Frodo, Gollum, Aragorn, Islduir, and Sauron – if you are crossing Fandom A during the Fellowships adventure. You will also need to know each step of the story depending on where Fandom A ends up with the Fellowship, meaning that if Fandom A follows Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli you will need to know about the Rohirrim and Sarumon. If Fandom A is following Merry and Pippin you need to know about the Ents and Sarumon. And finally if Fandom A is following Frodo and Sam, you need to know about Gollum and the Rangers that Faramir of Gondor has. <br /><br /> You might be saying “What, that’s stupid! I don’t need to do all that!” well, true, you don’t – but if not then the fans of Lord of the Rings will defiantly not enjoy your story and will point out your errors. Remember, when you are writing a crossover you are writing to two audiences: Fandom A and Fandom B (or more if it has more crossovers).<br /><br /> <b>Fandom's Genre</b><br /> The next important step in a good crossover is remembering the Genres that the fandoms are in. Anything can be crossed over, but there are many things that should not be crossed over. This will mainly be dependant on the genre that the fandoms are. Of course there are good crossovers where the fandoms come from two different genres, but just remember that you have to pay more attention to each fandom’s genre to keep readers enjoying the story. However just because they are in the same genre doesn’t mean they are always good for crossing over (explained later).<br /><br /> For example, let’s say you want to cross Stargate SG-1 with Lord of the Rings. Easy enough to set up, after all the StarGate will take you to any other world. But there is already some problems here. One show is science fiction and the other is fantasy. If you were to cross those two fandoms over you already have a lot you need to think about to explain how the story can flow smoothly. The first one that pops into my mind would be the P-90s that SG-1 uses against the medieval warfare that Middle-Earth has. And yes I did a SG1/LotR crossover role-play a long time ago for kicks, but it wouldn’t work as a good solid storyline. Hence humor VS serious.<br /><br /> <br /> <b>Beware of</b>:<br /> When you are doing a crossover, you’ll want to avoid several things. Many of these things will be depending on what two or more fandoms you crossover, but I suggest doing no more than two fandoms for a serious story. Several things will usually pop up in every crossover to make it seem smoother or make the two fandoms connect.<br /><br /> The one that always come to my mind is: Blood Relations. This is when one of the main characters from Fandom A is related to another major character from Fandom B, usually a cousin. So let’s say that you want to crossover Harry Potter and Doctor Who, great! However you can’t make Rose related to Harry, well no you could, but it’d be silly. This would mean that somehow either Jackie Tyler or Pete Tyler were related to James Potter or Lily Evans Potter, which is impossible. James was a pure-blood only child and Lily’s only sister is Petunia Dursley. You need to know your fandoms history, see?<br /><br /> Another one is what I like to call: Bingo Night. This is where main character from Fandom A somehow met main character from Fandom B; they talked for a bit, became best friends within five minutes, and know when the other is in trouble. This will usually lead Fandom A to run to the aid of Fandom B. Now there are some good ideas in this type of crossover, but honestly if it’s a serious crossover try to tie it into one of the fandoms better. Instead of main character from Fandom A meeting Fandom B character on Friday Bingo Night, try to tie it into the past-history (there it is again!) of what will usually be Fandom B. Otherwise you’ll end up with a Harry Potter/LotR crossover where Gandalf decides to take the Fellowship to Hogwarts to visit Dumbledore, and yes it was a crossover I seriously saw and read three chapters of.<br /><br /> Ah, and now: Mary-Sue and Original Characters. First let’s say this – not all Original Characters are Mary Sues, if an author knows what they are writing about and the world around it then it has a less likely chance of a Mary-Sue. It’s perfectly fine in my opinion to add an Original Character into a crossover as long as they are a secondary character. That means that the original character has some contact with the main characters from the fandoms and provides information, but otherwise does not interact with the main characters. The some examples: Harry Potter as a Order of the Phoenix member or Death Eater), Lord of the Rings as a guard of Rohan, Gondor, or secondary character for any race. Of course you can use it in whatever of your fandoms. If the original-character is secondary it has a good chance of not being a Mary-Sue. Now this can is easily done in Doctor Who as well, as seeing how your Original Character can be anything on an alien planet or a friend of Mickey Smith's, or well take your pick. Doctor Who is easily open for Original Characters.<br /><br />However if you are making a Doctor Who OC, you have to know it's history if you want to make he/she a Time Lord/Time Lady/Gallifreyan. Remember that if you are writing for the new series than Gallifrey (Doctor's home planet) has techincally gone to pieces, thus if your OC is a from Gallifrey you will need a good reason/backstory to how they survived the Time War, where they've been, why they didn't contact the Doctor, and then insert all of this into a crossover if you want an OC Gallifreyan in your crossover. Phew, lotta work, but it can be done.<br /><br /> <br /> <b>Tips on Crossovers</b>:<br /> Just because you can crossover, doesn’t mean you should. The best crossovers are done when you not only know your history, but you can also take aspects of a character from each fandom and help those characters grow, much like a normal story. Crossovers can be very dynamic or just plain suck.<br /><br /> For example, and this story has always gotten on my nerves; it was mentioned earlier, the Harry Potter/LotR crossover. They are both fantasy but they would not be compatible if you look into it history wise. Yes, I guess you could say that Sauron made the One Ring a horcrux like Voldemort made his, but that sounds rather silly as a whole. Why? Because then not only would they have to destroy the One Ring, but also defeat Sauron separately. Sauron’s whole soul was in the One Ring, not split in two. <br /><br /> Now then the story I’m referring to came out before the fifth book, so none of that was in there. It consisted of Gandalf somehow knowing where Hogwarts was, making a portal, and taking the Fellowship to Hogwarts. I stopped reading there because it was utterly stupid. The use of magic is completely different in both Middle-Earth and in J.R. Rowling’s universe for one. In Middle-Earth only the Wizards (or Istari for the big Ringers out there), Maia and Vala could do magic – and it was different magic from the Wizarding Worlds magic. Also, the Elves could do some magic but it was more with being in touch with nature. Thus you would have had a conflict of magic between the two fandoms and that’s just a headache to avoid. I love both fandoms but crossing them over into a working story that’s serious is completely and totally a big NO.<br /><br /> Another crossover would be something along the lines of SG-1/Harry Potter or take your pick. It is difficult to make a good crossover story with the Harry Potter series because of how wonderful J.K. Rowling has written it. If you wand to attempt a crossover with Harry Potter you would need to know all you can about the First War against Voldemort, and know enough about your other fandom in order to make a good sturdy background for both Fandoms to fall back on.<br /><br /> Now, lets talk about the fandoms you can easily crossover with anything. Those would be: StarGate SG-1, StarGate Atlantis, Kingdom Hearts, and Doctor Who (I’m sure there are others). These simply consist of teams going through StarGates, Sora unlocking a world, and the TARDIS appearing wherever. Those would also be the most stereotypical ways to start out a crossover; however that is how Kingdom Hearts and sometimes StarGate works. Once again if you want to cross any of these over than I suggest making a good backstory between the two. <br /><br />However, you could do something with StarGate SG-1 where they meet up with the crew of CSI (a show I know nothing about) on the simple fact that maybe CSI finds an alien body and the SG-1 goes to investigate, I don’t know, CSI is out of my range – but it is showing that you can use different aspects of the show to cross it over. The people of SG-1 do have lives outside the Gate. Also, instead of the TARDIS just appearing anywhere you could cross it over by having Rose back in London and being Rose getting into trouble with something relating to whatever fandom you chose to cross it over with. Consider your options!<br /><br />My friend and I did do another Role Play that I was working into a story, but it wouldn’t make sense because of how much we meshed the fandoms together. These fandoms would be known as Yuugiou and Yuugiou GX (better known as Yu-Gi-Oh! And Yu-Gi-Oh! GX) and Rockman.EXE (better known as Megaman NT Warrior). Now this is another option to keep in mind for a crossover, but it is rather risky. You can create an Alternate Universe where the two (or more) fandoms already co-exist with one another and just bring in the major points of each fandom into the Alternate Universe. For example we kept the PETs of .EXE and the Duel Monsters of YGO, but made them so larger companies in canon were competitors. I would only advise doing this with select fandoms otherwise you may loose the true back story of the fandoms. Meaning, don’t make Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings into an Alternate Universe – just please, don’t. Or if you do, don’t give me a link to it.<br /><br />Another option is what I call the Kingdom Hearts Syndrome. You can make it so Fandom A crosses over with Fandom B while Fandom B is still in the course of building to its climax. These are the easiest to do, but just keep in mind to keep aspects of Fandom A when inside the Fandom B world.<br /><br />So, all in all, just remember that you are writing for two audiences when doing a crossover. Know the history of the fandoms (aka know what you’re talking about), create a good reason for crossing the two over, and keep in mind what fandoms would be good to crossover. If you’re not sure than just break the fandoms to its basic elements and see if they are compatible, if not than don’t look for a serious storyline to come from it – or one that many fans of the fandoms will consider good or serious. My final piece of advise is just to keep writing. Before it had even fully anchored the Doctor was bounding off the ship and towards the school. His brown coat trailed behind him and Sirius ran behind him closely panting. The lights in the school were on – odd for an early morning of two o’clock – but the Doctor didn’t care. He threw the front doors open and stalked to Dumbledore’s office. To his surprise and appeasement Dumbledore was standing in front of the gargoyle speaking with Lupin.<br /><br />“Albus!” he roared. Dumbledore and Lupin looked up immediately, both surprised but Dumbledore smiled at him. “Where did you put my ship? Tell me now.”<br /><br />“And why do you need your ship, good friend?” Dumbledore inquired. “I assure you it is perfectly safe.”<br /><br />“Don’t play that game.” The Doctor warned, pointing his finger straight at Dumbledore’s nose. “Don’t start. Where is the TARDIS? I’m going to Azkaban and saving Rose.”<br /><br />“My Doctor what on Earth are you babbling on about?” Dumbledore turned to him fully. “There is no need for you to travel to Azkaban…
